Behind the scenes of self-organized spaces—Futuress in Stockholm!

In February, Futuress co-director Mio Kojima embarked on a five-day visit to Stockholm, Sweden, as part of the “expert visit” and seminar program by the Swedish Arts Grants Committee IASPIS. The trip offered a deep dive into the city’s vibrant landscape of community spaces and practices where activism and publishing intersect. Mio met Danica Sretenovic and Gaja Mežnarić Osole from the Ljubljana-based Krater collective, Evelina Mohei from Cyklopen, Maryam Fanni who is involved in several city-related collectives and the Hökarängen neighborhood archive, Elof Hellström from Hägerstensåsens medborgarhus, Izabella Borzecka from FOLK i Skärholmen, Hedvig Wiezell from Folkets Husby, and Johnny Chang and Sara Kaman from Munnen.

The visit closed with a lively event at IASPIS, where Munnen and Futuress shared insights into their work, exploring how each project engages with different communities, and how they navigate the challenges of sustaining their initiatives alongside teaching and other commitments.
